Brooklyn is quickly becoming the club-goer’s dance music destination. With the opening of Output last year and now Verboten, a brand new venue set to open this weekend, Brooklyn’s late-night offerings are formidable rivals for those across the bridge.

Verboten has been throwing parties within the New York underground dance music scene for the past decade and is now settling into a permanent home in Williamsburg. With a dystopian theme in mind, the Verboten team repurposed a former metal manufacturing warehouse into a 10,000 square foot, 750-person capacity venue that will feature a one-of-a-kind Martin Audio sound system, panoramic HD video, and 3D image mapping. The venue’s two event spaces, the larger Control Room and the more intimate Cabaret Bar, will host both established and up-and-coming house and techno DJs.

The new venue will not be limited to just DJ sets; the founders, Jen Schiffer and John Perez, intend to reflect the creative spirit of Brooklyn through live music, art shows, yoga & fitness classes and burlesque performances.

We’re excited to build a home for ourselves and our team; a multi-functional event space in Brooklyn designed for musicians & artists to fulfill their creative visions. We look forward to celebrating the unique wealth of talent that NYC has to offer for everyone who comes through our doors.

Verboten will be christened this Friday with Damian Lazarus’ notorious Rebel Rave party, featuring Lazarus alongside Francesca Lombardo, Fur Coat, Ida Engberg, and Pattern Drama. Rebel Rave is itself a party that has defined underground dance music for the past decade, so this will be a fitting grand opening event for the latest home to underground house and techno in Brooklyn.

The venue’s full March 2014 calendar is below. In addition to these confirmed events, Verboten also plans to host Carl Craig, Catz n’ Dogz, Davide Squillace, Josh Wink, Justin Martin, Lee Burridge, Matthew Dear, Speedy J, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, and Tiga in 2014.
